A young, powerfully driven labrador retriever and very well-rounded companion - in the field, blind and home. Of very muscular build, his working weight is 85 lbs. He boasts incredible field breed conformation and swift intellect. He is an easy dog to work with, takes pressure well and thrives on the next challenge. Amazingly swift and hard charging: Tex averages 100 yard land retrieves in under 20 seconds and effortlessly forges through water with the same determination. An earnest and sincere blend of drive, desire and style focus to create this extraordinary field comrade.Photo credit: Travis Gauthier of Zoom Photo Studio, LLC. Tex earned the Hunting Retriever Club (HRC) Hunting Retriever (HR) title at 15 months and his Hunting Retriever Champion (HRCH) title on March 12, 2006 at 25 months. He attained his Upland Hunter (UH) title in June, 2007; his first pass @ 12 months and the additional three needed in back to back attempts at the Cowtown HRC's Upland Hunt. He progresses to the Fall, 2007 HRC Hunt Test season with 405 points and nickname "The Dozer" as his desire, style and vigor remain a constant - no matter the cover nor terrain - whether on the way to or return from a retrieve.
Tex has made remarkable progress and is meeting success thanks to the expert training, care
and handling of Dale and Denise Johnson of D-2 Kennels
where he will continue his advanced level training. He will spend the
Summer and early Fall, 2007 "at home" with his family as he was one of the
unfortunate dogs to experience a breakthrough on Heartgard monthly
preventative which required treatment and related down time.
The good news is no permanent damage occurred and we caught it early by
testing simply "on a whim" after hearing all the breakthroughs being
reported by others from the same area he primarily trains in. We encourage
all field working dogs to have their companions checked for heartworms as
recent trends show an incredibly high incident of such breakthroughs
occurring with Heartgard and a variety of other monthly preventatives. We
will be working with him on reconditioning him to return the field later in
2007 and thanks to so many that have been our support through his treatment
and now recovery.
![]() He has begun training and preparing for AKC Hunt Test participation in the Master Hunter level, Super Retriever Series and additional venues and events. His OFA, CNM, and various other report particulars are offered in his Pedigree area. With great anticipation, we announce some very promising litters pending in the Spring of 2008. Visit our new Litters area to learn more about these fine breedings and contact information for the litter owners. We're thrilled to announce Tex's first litter with Gator Point Kennels. Truly fine companions don't happen by chance; they are created from devoted study and research of pedigrees and pairings. We aspire to these regiments in the litters Tex sires.
